2026 EVENT INFO:
Raingutter Regatta (June 2026 - Caney Creek Preserve)
The Raingutter Regatta is a popular Cub Scout racing event, often described as the sailing equivalent of the Pinewood Derby. Instead of cars on a track, Scouts race miniature sailboats down water-filled rain gutters.Â
How the Race Works:
The Track: Two 10-foot-long rain gutters are placed side-by-side on tables or saw horses and filled to the brim with water.
Propulsion: Scouts must propel their boats solely by blowing on the sails. They may blow directly or use a drinking straw (provided) to focus their breath.
Rules of Play:
Scouts cannot touch the boat with their hands, straws, or any part of their body during the race.
Hands may only be used to upright a capsized boat.
The first boat to reach the end of the gutter wins the heat.
Tournament Format:
Races are typically organized in a double-elimination format, ensuring every Scout gets to race at least twice.
Boat:
Scouts will be given sailboats to assemble and put their creative touches on prior to the event. There will be a prize for best design as well!
